The election of Charles Hopkins, De Grendel Cellarmaster, as the chair of the South African National Wine Show Association (SANWSA) during the recent AGM of the association, heralds a new era – not only for this industry body, but also for the two biggest wine competitions, the SA Young Wine Show and Veritas Awards.
Charles has been the cellarmaster of De Grendel, Durbanville since 2005. He is one of SA’s esteemed winemakers and an experienced Sauvignon Blanc judge.
Charles also acts as mentor for winemaking students of Elsenburg and the University of Stellenbosch.
He follows in the formidable footsteps of several greats in the wine industry that served as chair of the SANWSA over the past 35 years: Duimpie Bayley, Danie de Wet, Lourens Jonker and NC Krone.
Bennie Howard of Meerendal Estate was elected at vice chair.
You make us proud gentleman!
