In 1698 Governor Simon van der Stel granted the farm Groot Phesantekraal to its first owner Captain Oloff Berg. By 1756, 40 000 vines had already been established. The Brink family acquired the land in 1897 and has been running it as a working farm with the majority of it being cattle, sheep and grain. For four generations they have also been intrinsically linked to the art of wine farming. In 2005 they fulfilled their lifelong dream and launched the family flagship brand, Phizante Kraal Wine. The farm is responsible for producing premium quality, award winning, distinctive red and white wines in an environmentally sensitive and ethically responsible manner.
