Nestled in the Tygerberg Hills, a mere 20 minutes drive from Cape Town, lies the Durbanville Wine Valley. With its hectares of flourishing vineyards, award winning wines and hospitable atmosphere, this wine route is fast becoming the Cape’s destination of choice. The Durbanville Wine Valley consists of nine wineries, each offering the finest in wines, and complemented with some of the best fine dining restaurants and intimate country kitchens in the region.
We are united in our passion to reflect the Durbanville

SOCCER FEVER HITS COOL CLIMATE DURBANVILLE WINE VALLEY
While the Durbanville Wine Valley may well be prized for its cool climate, things are heating up as football fever hits this popular wine route a mere 20 minutes away from Cape Town’s city centre. Even beer on tap makes a guest appearance in the valley known for sauvignon blanc and merlot.
“Our tight-knit band of talented vintners may not have all mastered the art dribbling, yet they are masters of hospitality,” says Michelle van Staden of the Durbanville Wine Valley Association. “Each and every cellar is positively bursting to spoil wine-loving football enthusiasts with their wares.”
Several wine farms – De Grendel, Nitida, Durbanville Hills Cellars, Bloemendal Estate, Hillcrest and Meerendal – will host special football-themed food and wine activities over the period of the World Cup (with beer on tap makings its debut at Nitida). Other farms on the route, including Altydgedacht, D’Aria and Diemersdal will welcome visitors to their tasting rooms with their usual gusto.
A word of advice from the Durbanville Wine Valley Association: “Plan before you party during the World Cup festivities,” says van Staden. “Let’s have some fun, enjoy wine responsibly, get home safely and have no regrets the morning after.”

Spend a warming winter’s day in our Durbanville Wine Valley
Date: Sunday, 6 June 2010
Nine wine farms in the Durbanville Wine Valley host the second Soup, Sip and Bread winter event on Sunday June 6th, providing the perfect environment to enjoy this delightful wine route’s reds with hearty country fare, all served up with live music in a rustic, country-side setting.
The wine farms participating in this fun-filled family event are Nitida, Meerendal, Hillcrest, Durbanville Hills, Diemersdal, De Grendel, D’Aria, Bloemendal and Altydgedacht.
After a sell-out debut last year, festival goers will yet again flock to this special winter event to warm the cockles of the heart with home-made soup and just-baked artisanal bread perfectly matched with red wine from the valley’s cellars.
“Imagine Tuscan Bean Soup with Merlot; Minestrone with Barbera; or Shiraz with biltong soup and soft glüwein bread,” says Michelle van Staden of the Durbanville Wine Valley Association. “Soup and bread have been symbols of warmth and conviviality throughout the ages. Bring wine into the mix and we offer visitors an experience they won’t easily forget. Festival goers can traipse from farm to farm to taste wine, or simply settle on one farm for the day - feasting on winter-inspired dishes and sipping on wine from our casks.”
This laid-back winter feast also adds a fun challenge to the art of food and wine pairing, as vintners and chefs find soulful partners for the variety of soups, chowders and gumbos on offer. “Although the cooler weather calls for red wine to go with blazing fires, don’t be surprised if Sauvignon Blanc - the valley’s signature white - makes a guest appearance with a wholesome seafood bisque, or Gewürztraminer tames a spicy Mexican tortilla soup.
